Follow up; I followed the 986 FAQ method below, and couldn't be happier; the Phone power supply is switched, so it turns off with the ignition, and the ground was right there behind the console. Routing the wire under the glove box, up the passenger A pillar, and behind the top trim was about as easy as you could hope.
Took about an hour and a half, as I like to take my time.
