After looking closely at both inlet covers, it seems that the inside opening is exactly the same size on both so unless the ribs are larger on one over the other the same amount of air should be delivered. It would also seem that removing the snork would provide a bit of ram effect as then the cavity would fill with air pressure at speed and not just be drawn in through that narrow opening pipe which looks somewhat restrictive. The actual opening where the snork enters the filter box is larger than the opening in the end of the snork as it tapers from narrow at the opening end to larger at the filter entry end. Just some thoughts and observations .
