With regard to the Ford and Aston/ Jag purchases, Ford paid too much for both when they bought them, especially with regard to Jag. When Ford purchased Jag they bought some of the worst facilities in the automotive world. There were internal reports from Ford within the 80s that showed that the then current Taurus had fewer defects off the line than the Jag platform. They have since significantly improved the brand, though from a financial valuation, even if they got the company for free, after all the money they've put into it, its still a loss.
