I've also whited mine out when selling cars online in the past but got to thinking... why am I wasting my time doing this? I was only doing it because most of the pictures I see online have them whited out, so I figured there must be some good reason.

In a good picture, I color match the plate with the body so it blends in and is not leaving a big sore spot in the photo. Otherwise it looks like
