Sand & Gravel can have the same effect. I have to be careful driving in PA in the spring, they use gravel/cinders with the salt when they treat the roads. This is especially bad on a motorcycle......

I would vote for the middle ground, you don't have to pop for Snap-On, but I wouldn't use harbor Freight either. I have a 3/8" Craftsman and a mid-priced 1/2" Proto.

Yup. I just slapped a set of EBC red on mine a few years ago, next time it gets new rotor and pads. I didn't even use the anti-squeal pads and they've been as quiet and strong as ever.

Exactly how long is "drove it around a while" ? It may have not had enough time to re-charge. A small maintenance charger is inexpensive, and a wise purchase, though 2 days isn't enough time for it...
