Incorrect info on my part, it's a ballast. :) Our cars don't have a bulb-out warning (well at least mine without the dot-matrix display doesn't). I would wager that the copper ribbon heatsinks...

I think the heat concern is more on the resistor...

I think the heat concern is more on the resistor pack than the heatsink. I can try to get in mine to test.
