Question about 3.4 swap

I have a base Boxster -99 with the 2.5 litre engine and manual gearbox and although it's great fun to drive, I can't help but thinking that it would be absolutely perfect with around 100 more hp. I have come across a 3.4 litre engine from a Tiptronic 996 (-98). Would it be possible to put that engine in my car as described in my 101 Projects book? Or is the tip box wiring incorporated in the engine electronics?

reuse your 2.5 harness and reflash your stock ecu to a 996 tune of that era. Pretty straight forward swap. I have a 3.2 in mine and man its a lot more fun with more power

Quad is correct. The engine doesn't care what tranny it's mated to, but the ecu certainly does.

When the owners manual says that the laws of physics can't be broken by this car, I took it as a challenge...

Yes, another 100 + horsepower makes a big difference! I got that by getting a 3.4, but rather than swapping it into my '02 Boxster, I upgraded the whole car and got a 2010 Cayman S. At track days it is very noticeable, bends that were no problem flat-out in the Boxster are now places where you have to lift!

That's an idea, but unfortunately that would be significantly more expensive. And my girlfriend just bought a 2008 Cayman S Design Edition 1, so I guess I can borrow hers...
