Elusive noise after adding GT3 LCA:s - 986 Forum - The Community for Porsche Boxster & Cayman Owners

As told in Another thread (somewhere) I have replaced the front subframe, added GT3-LCA:s with tarett:s solid "caster bushings".

Now when turning right I have a light but siginificant scraping noise from the front left. It sound EXACTLY like if the break shield would be touching the brake disc.. But it doesnt.. It has normal clearance as far as I can see.

I´m running out of idéas, any advice?

Id suggest turning the wheels to the point where you typically get the noise and have a good look around with the car on the ground. Could be brake ducts hitting a wheel, the wheel hitting the liner, or any number of things. Is it a metal on metal sound (based on your brake dust shield description, it sounds that way).

Are you SURE all your bolts are torqued?

Get a friend. Find a big parking lot. Have your friend drive the car around in a circle very slowly while you walk alongside to try and locate where the sound is coming from. When you think you have it, have the friend stop the car but not change the steering angle so you can check whatever you think is scraping. Keep doing this until you find the source of the scraping sound. Its a bit time consuming but if you're diligent, you'll find the source.

Pul the LF wheel and check the wheel well for a tire rub spot. I had too much castor in my 986 at one point and the tire just grazed the inner wheel well at full lock right turn.

SOLVED!

Thanks all for great input, finally I removed the break shield completely and then the noise vent away.. It really did´t look like it should touch, but it did..

I guess the shield is needed to protect the ball joint on the LCA and steering rod from heat. Would it be a good idea to use gold-reflective tape on the balljoint instead of adding a new brake shield?

Solved: Managed to bend the old shield back to shape :-)
