I'd bet that for less than 10 bucks more, you can buy the real deal .04 cap at a dealership or indie...
And where does that little spigot attach to, anyway? No OEM cap has that.
Just curious if you know.
I bought a gennie at my indie for $23, which at the current exchange rate is about USD $2.95.

I just found it and thought it looked weird. I got a replacement that looks like the original. Im confused about the spigot too.

You can purchase a genuine "04" for under $15.00, no tax, free shipping from here:

Porsche 911 Boxster Cayman Expansion Tank Cap FEBI BILSTEIN New 99610644704 | eBay

I replace mine every year as part of preventative maintenance; I don't even test the existing one. I've heard of water pump failures because of old, faulty caps, so I don't even mess with them.

It may be an old wives tale, but then again, I haven't replaced a water pump yet.

Just sayin'...............

Im going to follow your lead and replace mine every year too. The one i bought was $8 from Oreillys and seems to have fixed my overheating issue. Even if it was $50, id replace it every year so i wont have to deal with any overheating.

I haven't had a pump fail, but my cap was loose, and it dumped two gallons of coolant. Which would have been OK, but we were on private property and had just signed an agreement with the property owner to not put ANYTHING down the sewers.

I see Pelican Parts has two caps, a .04-MB and a .04-IND. Both black, both will fit my car, one $15, one $22. Other than $7, what is the difference?
