Durametric

I am looking at getting a Durametric and wanted to know what it will do that a generic code reader won't do? Also what will it not do that the Porsche dealer diagnostic program will do? Thanks

I find myself in the exact situation you described so I will follow the commentary closely.
Thanks

In general, the Durametric will access things like brake, body (locks, airbags), transmission, etc codes where generic code readers will only handle engine emissions codes. Durametric had a table of capabilities on its web site. For serious maintenance, it is great.

Will the Durametric allow me to reset the seat presets so that the memory works with my key to my settings? I currently have the fuse taken out of the seat because when I use the key to unlock the car it goes to the setting for the previous owner. The preset beside the seat works for my settings but I have not been able to get the key to do so. Thanks

For a somewhat cheaper alternative, you could go for the MaxiDiag Elite. Does more than just the basics, but maybe less than the Durametric. Just got mine yesterday from Amazon, and was able to reset the airbag light and get the fault code for my locking system.

An advantage of the Durametric is the ability to graph actual values of engine sensors in real time and activation of various components for testing and diagnosing.

The Autel unit definitely had its advantages, too.
One major downside to the Durametric is that you have to use it with a laptop. I fought software issues for a few months before I got mine working right.

I like the self-contained package of the Autel much better.

That's what drew me to it, though maybe someday I'll have to splurge for the Durametric too!
