Mach, I think if you had the chance to pull my car out of the garage and drive it first thing in the morning when it's nice and crisp outside, you'd tell me not to put any kind of shifter in the car except for maybe a tiptronic...

1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st is so unbelievably stiff when the engine is cold that I dread taking the car out if it's not the heat of the summer.

It ain't nothin' like your 987 with six or seven years of improvements as well as a tranny with hardly any miles on it.

Like most things a shorter throw comes as a compromise. I bought the B&M ...hated it and went back to OEM. I'm with JIm, I missed more shifts with the B&M. I prefer long and smooth over short and notchy.

100% agreement with the both of you. I tried a B&M in my Eclipse back in the day and hated it.

But I hear good things about the stock short shifter for the 987. I think you get less variability in the responses from people since you just bolt the thing in place--there's no way you can screw up the cables, etc.

I'm thinking of getting one and putting it in myself...

Hi,

You're aware that B&M is the OEM supplier of the Short Shift for Porsche..??

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Hi,

You're aware that Porsche sells the short shifter all cradled-up and bolt-in ready right? That's all I'm saying--that you don't need to hack things apart to put it in. Less chance for the error prone to well, make errors. How many varying opinions have you heard on the B&M and Schnell short shifters, eh?

The part costs like $400 though... that is a bit of a downer.

I have the swift shift kit and love it.

I originally put in the Schnell kit and hated it. Took it out after 2 days. Poor imitation of the proper kit, too many compromises to get the cheap price IMHO. The needle bearing and heim joints used in the EVOM kit is first class.

My P-Car mechanic didn't know what I did but he commented that the shifter feels like a knife though butter.

See this link for past review of the product: Vertex / Schell short shifter review

hey super66 - yeah, i got mine from epiq - the box it came in actually said 986 (and most of the instructions showed 986 pix (which is why they say download the b&m instructions as well - they are really helpful for certain steps).

so, just call epiq or PM epiqtodd and tell him you want the schnell for an 05 and he'll hook you up.

i really wish they made the schnell for bmw!

hey super66 - it did sit a tiny bit higher, but the position was perfect both in form and function. and, i did complete deamber the front and rears - i actually did silver style bulbs that blinked hyperwhite for both the front and rear blinkers - it looked great! when i sold the porsche i actually removed the bulbs i put in thinking i'd put them in my bmw - turns out the sylvania guide was wrong for the bimmer - so i have to buy different bulbs.

if you want, i'd be happy to sell you the bulbs i have - they were hardly used - i have a set of silver style that blink amber for the rear, another set of silver style that blink hyperwhite for the rear and a set of silver style that blink hyperwhite for the fronts. i may even have the stock set of fog lights if you want a back up (i replaced those with a set of hyperwhite and didn't have time to take them out before i sold the car). send me a pm if you want them - i'd sell all the bulbs for $25 plus shipping.
