It is a good product for those that do not want to do the full blown short shift kit.

Looks nice, 20% reduction is good. I dislike most B&M as they make the trans notchy and I prefer a smooth shift even if it's long. A notchy shift causes me to misshift more oftin while racing or driving hard, so I just got used to racing with stock shifters and have done quity well with them.
Something like this might be nice tho... |
[QUOTE=RandallNeighbour]Anyone had any personal experience with this new kit?
Randall - have you considered the Schnell SS? It was so easy to install and was phenom! If they made it for it bmw... |
notchier than stock? I've been on the fence for the B&M forever.
I think its at the limit of notchiness as is. If it got even stickier I would be muy unhappy. long and sharp=fine long and mushy=not fine short and sharp=EXCELLENT short and sticky=not fine Sometimes I wish I would never have driven that S2000 gearbox. I was perfectly happy with the status quo before that. |
i'm telling you guys - schnell short shifter!!!!!
|
Mach, I think if you had the chance to pull my car out of the garage and drive it first thing in the morning when it's nice and crisp outside, you'd tell me not to put any kind of shifter in the car except for maybe a tiptronic...
1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st is so unbelievably stiff when the engine is cold that I dread taking the car out if it's not the heat of the summer. It ain't nothin' like your 987 with six or seven years of improvements as well as a tranny with hardly any miles on it. |
Like most things a shorter throw comes as a compromise. I bought the B&M ...hated it and went back to OEM. I'm with JIm, I missed more shifts with the B&M. I prefer long and smooth over short and notchy.

But I hear good things about the stock short shifter for the 987. I think you get less variability in the responses from people since you just bolt the thing in place--there's no way you can screw up the cables, etc. I'm thinking of getting one and putting it in myself... |

You're aware that B&M is the OEM supplier of the Short Shift for Porsche..?? Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
Hi,
You're aware that Porsche sells the short shifter all cradled-up and bolt-in ready right? That's all I'm saying--that you don't need to hack things apart to put it in. Less chance for the error prone to well, make errors. How many varying opinions have you heard on the B&M and Schnell short shifters, eh? The part costs like $400 though... that is a bit of a downer. |
I have the swift shift kit and love it.
I originally put in the Schnell kit and hated it. Took it out after 2 days. Poor imitation of the proper kit, too many compromises to get the cheap price IMHO. The needle bearing and heim joints used in the EVOM kit is first class. My P-Car mechanic didn't know what I did but he commented that the shifter feels like a knife though butter. See this link for past review of the product: http://986forum.com/forums/performance-technical-chat/4441-vertex-schell-short-shifter-review.html?highlight=shift |
Question: Does the swift kit lower the height of the stick? I was almost mistaking the "20% throw reduction" with the height of stick.
Anyone? Thanks |

Gotta agree with Mach Schnell on this one. I got a Schnell short shift on eBay last week and installed it yesterday. It took about an hour to install and the directions were extremely clear and easy to follow. I had one minor glitch and called for tech support. The call was picked up on the 3rd ring and the guy who answered it was extremely helpful and solved my issue in 2 shakes. I gotta say the customer service there is great. I am very pleased with the shifter as well. I think a lot of it is personal preference-I really don't think that this shifter will improve my street driving any but I must say that I totally dig it! I feel much more in touch with the car and the road than with the stock shifter. |

hey super66 - yeah, i got mine from epiq - the box it came in actually said 986 (and most of the instructions showed 986 pix (which is why they say download the b&m instructions as well - they are really helpful for certain steps).
so, just call epiq or PM epiqtodd and tell him you want the schnell for an 05 and he'll hook you up. i really wish they made the schnell for bmw! |
thanks for the info
cool, hey did it sit any different.....I read a review it sits higher than the sock shifter? anything ugly? also did you ever deamber? I see the kits on the epic site, just curious if the buld stays yellow too or if you swap out the bulbs for the turn signal?
