I have a VDO vision temp gauge and the sender at the same spot, up to around 200 the gauge agreed with the durametric reading.

Normal operating temp for me is about 190-200 F for street driving. At the track I see 220-230'ish but have never compared with the durametric on track

Yours sounds really high, there are multiple ranges of senders and associated gauges, maybe you have a mismatch?
