Clucking (Track Arms, Read)

Just replaced the rear track arms PN 986.331.043.07, TRW Parts from Pelican. It fixed the clunking noise coming from the rear. Parts fit perfectly, with no adjustments required. The old arms look perfectly good, except for the rubber bushing being very soft, almost mushy. I believe the new arm has a firmer rubber bushing compared to original. Cost was about $305 parts, $180 labor. The alignment was not compromised; however, should be checked after install. This is expensive fix just to eliminate the clunking noise, as otherwise did not make a difference in handling.

Hi Ken,

I am planning the same changes shortly as I have the same clucking noises from the rear control arm when riding over slightly uneven roads. I believe it does make a difference to the handling in extreme situations because the worn rubber bushing might be moving slightly causing the suspension to move under powered cornering.

We have lost the rear end twice now, once in the wet when the car snapped sideways and got me into a bit of a tank slapper and the second time it caught out my son driving on some dry cobbled streets in Paris.

I will update when I make the changes in the next few weeks.
