thud when shifting from first to second on a fairly hard acceleation from a stop

So when i shift from 1st to second, i get a thud after releasing the clutch and applying accelerator, doing a higher rev shift change...Any ideas as to what this could be a indicator of?...not spinning tires or anything, I don't do that..but what I like to refer to as spirited driving ya know, the "Porsche experience"

If you have the tools and the skill, you can replace just the rubber part for cost of $35 or so. A full motor mount of the newest design is about $120 and is a bolt in job.

I replaced the motor mount myself, royal pain in the ass without a lift. II think I'd rather spend $200 more and get it done by a reliable indie. Doing it yourself takes about as day with the car on jack stands.

I have to disagree...took me 2 hours. Just lift the back and put on jack stands as always (or use ramps). Put jack under engine, lift engine a few inches to take weight off of front mount, put another jack stand beneath the motor to relieve floor jack, unbolt mount and cuss a bit while you snake it through the coolant hoses. thats all there is to it. If it wasn't for the coolant hoses, it would be a 30 minute job.

I agree, just replaced mine this morning. Took about 2.5 hours and that was peckering around. A friend came down after the car was up on stands and we knocked it out painlessly. Now doing it, I think I can do it again in about an hour. Nothing really gave us any trouble, just got to twist and turn it the right way and its done.

You might want to do your water pump at the same time, if it's been a while.

Yes

Clickman that's a great idea and then you can disconnect the hoses to get them out of your way!! Love it!
