Another IMS question...

A friend of mine inherited a 2006 Carrera S with the 3.8 engine from his father that passed away.

This car was manufactured on 12/05 with the VIN WP0CB29926S767057

Is there a way to find out if this car has the newer IMS bearing that cannot be serviced without complete engine disassemble?

Any Porsche engine built after 2005, as well as any engine replaced after 2004, and until the 9A1 engine was introduced in 2009, has the oversized IMS bearing.

2005 was a transitional year, some of the engine's carry the older single row IMS, others are the oversized non serviceable unit. Unfortunately, there is no way to know which one is which without taking the car apart and looking; every other published method (build dates, VIN numbers, etc.)has been proven wrong multiple times.
