16 year air bags - is it time to change or remove them?

Have any addressed the old air bag issue? Given the recent air bag problems I have to wonder about what is appropriate for our 986s..

I'd rather have 16 year old Porsche airbags than 1 year old Takata ones in my car

I've been checking frequently to try and find out if they are. It seems VAG is one of the only companies to have a lineup completely free of takata air bags. Now if this would work as precedent for Porsche's of the past or not i do not know. However I am left with the assumption that we have some of the only cars on the road without the problem.

This definately could be the case....I was just just questioning the age and vintage of what is in there:

-malfunction
-dangerous deployment velocity / forces that would not be accepted today

VW has its own air bags problems.

Manufacturers say that air bags are a "lifetime" item and do not need to be replaced due to age.

I don't believe them but at the same time, I have never went to the trouble of trying to find a new replacement.

Mercedes-Benz used to put replacement year decals on the driver's door jamb, as at the time they didn't know if they'd still be good. After a certain production year, they sent a TSB that stated replacement wasn't required any longer. My E320's were scheduled to be removed in December 2009, but that wasn't necessary.
