RMS install question.
I replaced this as per Bently.
When my Indy came over to swap the IMS he said man, that looks really deep.
Book said 11mm as I recall. I set it with a depth gauge.
Is this correct? Just him / me? Now I'm reluctant to torque the flywheel bolts.

"Look" vs. your measuring instruments ? I say the instrument wins.
There has been some discussion about the correct depth. One aspect is to let the seal wipe on a slightly different 'ring' around the c/s.
Try asking JFP on Renntech for the geekish details?

The 11mm is from the crank face and not the crank case. Easy mistake to make. I did.

For the newer PTFE seal, the correct installed depth is 13 MM measured from the flywheel mating face on the crankshaft. This is where Porsche's $500 installation tool puts it.

RennTech also has the very simple "Home Depot" pvc install tool instructions. Worth using because if the seal goes in canted,it is useless and you'll destroy it when removing it and you will have to reorder  -.

I used the bell end of a stick of 3" schedule 40 PVC. Perfect fit.
Good thing I bought two. I'll pull & reset.

Use the bolts also -per RennTech to avoid canting the seal.
