I think the correct part no. is 000-043-305-00. This shows on some sites as superseding some 986 part nos., so I think it might be the correct fluid for 986s as well.
According to Pelican OEM Porsche gear oil part number 000-043-305-49 is what is specified for my 2001 986s. Changed it out last week and it shifts about the same. Just like my road tractor, tough shifts when cold, but once warmed up it gets easier.

Gear lube for 97 5-spd manual

As old posts below, the factory spec fluid is Burmah N 052 911 C0/ 000 043 304 71 but no luck finding it on the web…. Anyone knows who still sell them by litter, not by drum can?

Or any alternative fluids with good results? I read many old posts that non-factory fluids did not work well and caused notchy feel esp. when cold, so I’d like to stick with the factory fluid only if I can find it….
