Springs?

Hello Chaps! I'm about to take my boxster in to have the shocks redone however while I have all 4 brand new shocks for the mechanic to install I do not have new springs. How would I go about getting the OEM springs? It seems that every site I see seems to have aftermarket springs and I really don't need anything fancy (The car isn't tracked). Some guidance in the right direction would be great!

How many miles and what year is your car?

Springs are often thought to be a lifetime component - meaning that you may be able to simply reuse the original springs with your new struts.

Check for spring sag by checking the ride height at all four corners and then inspect each spring after removal from the old strut; if all is well it can probably be reused.

Its a 98 with roughly 86,000 miles on it. I've noticed a creaking sound from back there after I go over harsh bumps exactly what I imagine a rusty old spring would sound like.

Garage
If the springs are not bent or broken and you don't care to change weight or height, reuse them.

It could be the spring itself, but more likely a worn upper or lower spring perch rubber gasket creating a creak as the spring slowly rubs against the strut perch under compression and extension. Could also be several other components. It is sometimes surprising where suspension creaks and clunks can come from!
