exposed cable on convertible top

Can anyone tell me what this is. I called the dealer, but they can't take me until next Tuesday. They also won't speculate on what the cable is. It seems to work fine. No funny noises or anything, but should I play it safe and leave the top up until next Tuesday?

Yes... looks just like that.... is that normal?

The service adviser at the dealership said that it wasn't. The first time I noticed, it was on both sides of the top. I put the top down and then back up and it went away. A couple days later it reappeared only on the passenger side. Now it won't go away. That can't be good. Any ideas?

Eslai is our resident loose-strings from canopy expert...

If you read his comments in this thread he reported a similar problem that didn't seem catastrophic and was resolved by the dealer. Perhaps he has more info...

Minor top issue on the 987 (maybe 986)

Thanks for the link to the thread. I searched for such threads, but obviously missed that one.
