Cayman vs Boxster 2.5

I have a 98 boxster, and just last night, I "raced" a Cayman. I'm not a racer nor do I believe in driving at incredible speeds on the regular road. I just thought I'd share my short experience with you guys.

We were at red lights, and we acknowledged each other with the "Fellow Porsche Owner What's Up" nod. There were no curvy roads; just a simple quick drag style roadway. We accelerated to the max with only the 1st and 2nd gear used. Fastest we went was probably about 55mph, but I was amazed to see that my boxster kept up with the Caymen! He was about half a car size ahead of me, but still, I was impressed with my low powered treasure. I have to admit, that Cayman.. whew. what a nice looking car. The driver was cool too, he stopped in the middle of the road and waved goodbye as I waited to make a left turn.

Honestly, I thought that too. However, I had my window down, and I heard his engine and exhaust screaming at high RPM. He still beat me, and if we went any further, he probably would have been 5 cars in front.

Talking

Based on published times, he should have humiliated you.

Bad driver?

Consider yourself lucky to have not been hammered AND not been cited for street racing!

I gotta agree with Richard. Our 2.5's don't have near the torque that a 3.4 has to pull that Cayman S off the line.

I think the Cayman S will be my next Porsche. That or a 987 S... both used, of course. I will let one of you fine people take my depreciation hit.

Dangerous!!!!

This sounds REALLY dangerous guys, I really don't approve of this "STREET RACING". For the safety of others please stick to a PCA AutoX event. I bet you were listening to "Techno" music too, probably the Fast&Furious soundtrack.

BTW the Caymen owner was toying with you and got his two left feet confused.

Happy Street racing!

basically he has a third more power than you at roughly the same weight. if he'd really hit it, you would have known it.

everyone on this board gets on it once in awhile on the street, if you drive a porsche, you're going to gas it once in awhile. i doubt we bought our boxsters to keep it under 2500 rpm.

i've made a list of don'ts that are dangerous while driving
racing
cell phones
drinks
sunglasses
driving barefoot (i'm guilty)
looking at women while driving
playing with radio

i'm guilty of all of the above. we need to have the above banned.

Exactly. The 2.5L's 0-50 time is similar to the Cayman's 0-60 time.
