Any tips to remove the shifter cables from gearbox..?

I tried (unsuccessfully) to pull the shifter cables from their sockets on the gearbox applying considerable force but I was afraid to bend or break something..

Are there any tips to remove the cables from the gearbox..? Last night I was too tired to start guessing and get creative and decided to take a break and will continue tonight.

I only have one bolt left to remove between the engine/gearbox (top left driver side, closest to the slave cylinder) and was going to wait after removing the gearbox mounts to lower the gearbox a bit to have more room, but before that I have to remove the shift linkage cable from the gearbox that is on the way of this bolt.

Thank you in advance for sharing your comments

Regards, Gilles
