Oil leak from leads?

I am looking at 2001 with 50k miles. The dealer told me when I first looked at the car that he had changed the oil and replaced spark plugs and lead to fix a common problem that causes leaks (oil I think). Does anyone kow what he is talking about. When I test drove the car it has the smell of burning oil like some had been spilled on the manifold. Does this make any since?
