yet another window problem

did a search and read the good sources from the window thread, but I haven't seen this one discussed. Driver's door - just started today - when I open or close the door, the window goes down as it should, but then immediately goes back up, causing the glass to be outside of the roof channel when the door is closed again. I am afraid I'm going to break the glass. Getting in, all I have to do is lower it a bit and then manually raise it, and it goes back up into the proper place in the window channel in the roof. When I get out and park, I can't do anything except try to close the door real fast.
I tried resetting it per the manual and the advice here, but no luck. Is it a microswitch? Is failure sudden? I had the roof open in the service position today for a bunch of engine maintanence - could that have affected anything?
Thanks in advance.

Don't know for sure, but I'll take a guess: a sensor in the driver's door thinks it's closed and the window should be raised fully even though the door is open. Hence the window goes back up. I'll bet this happens as soon as you release the inner or outer door handle.

yes, that is what is happening. So you think it is one of those microswitches?

Yes, there is a specific microswitch that tells the car whether the door is open or closed. I believe it's part of the door lock assembly. Someone else can confirm, but I think the fix is to replace the assembly.

which microswitch is it? I believe there are 7 of them in the door. My inclination will be to try to fix it myself first.

Look at these two links. I think the switch in on the top of the lock mechanism. It's under the cam that rolls when the door handle is lifted.

thanks Thom - the renntech thread is my problem exactly. I will take the door apart and see if there is something I can fix.

Garage
I had the same issue, changed all the microswitches(doorhandle, new doorlock),
it did not help, but i finally found my problem,
it was cracked door wires.
I think when window going up/down,
it scrubs the wires(maybe not proberly installed) over long period...
So check the wires too.
