Does anyone have a pic of the top of a M96 with the intakes off? Preferably out of the car.

This is my 2000 S 3.2 case with 88,500 miles & nothing wrong with it after cleaning. I then shipped it to LN for 99mm sleeves & crankcase windage notches. You can tell it has not been to LN yet because it hasn't been decked.

Your engine looks spotless! Do you know how it was cleaned?

Thanks, guys. pjq I think you've given me what I need. A bolt from the U-shaped shield over the alternator fell in behind when I was trying to get out the alternator. Now I have a better idea of where to try to stick the magnet, through all the hoses and cables etc.

No. No. Because if he did I never would have seen so many pretty picures of the engine. I'm amazed by PJQ's engine. Truely amazed.

Haaaaha, if your refering to the bare block it is spotless. I had just got it home from the rebuilders and placed it on the stand.
I had washed it before taking it to them then when it was in-pieces they washed it numerous times (still not sure if ultrasonic) but what makes it look so new is the Spray Paint! I thought that was standard procedure for a rebuild. Don't be fooled by the make up, haaa! So far the engine is working great (1300miles).
With the engine so clean it now makes it easier to see if anything is wrong or leaking on the engine.

Ah, spray paint, I thought it looked extra shiny. Paint doesn't help heat dissipation.

Does anyone know what the sensor just right of the vacuum reservoir is? Goes deep into the block and looks similar to a knock sensor?

That's what I thought, but there's a bolt that holds it in place.

Here's a picture!

Ah sh** Bypro, if I run the car hard enough can I burn off that light layer of paint.
The cars temp gauge is running about 5 degree cooler than before the rebuild. I did put in the 160 thermostat.

Just thinking again ByPro, considering heat dissipation how much worst is the paint on the engine compared to an engine covered with dirt and grime?

I wouldn't do anything, the LN sleeves reduce friction so it runs cooler. In Canada the paint may help prevent corrosion, but I wouldn't worry about it.
