I use a dab of silicon grease to just moisten the o-rings.

You really do want to get an expanding transom plug to facilitate tube removal.

Hmm, I haven't tried it yet, but I bought the pipe fittings for a T section to try and use. Read about it on Pelican Parts if I remember it correctly. I was going to change plugs this weekend, then decided to wait until after my trip as there is nothing wrong currently and I didn't want to cause an issue.

I have new tubes and rings for it and was wondering if I should just change them while I'm there or only if I spot a leak. FWIW, I bought the platinum plugs by Bosch FGR 7 DQP.

I am very curious about the pipie t-section tool as I have been told the transom plug does not work sometimes....not sure why
