Preferred Spark Plugs

Is there a current preferred brand / heat range spark plug that would be best for my 2000S

Also what is the deal with this $50 spark plug tube assembly grease????

Ah alternatives?? I would have just oiled the O-rings up a put them in! Maybe that is why they are oozing oil now

Oh yes ignition coil preferred brand and spec!??

....guess what I am up to this weekend

jaykay, the $$$ grease is not required....

1) I've used both Bosch and Beru plugs - I cant tell the difference between them, but I change them out every 25,000km, so thats no surprise. Type 14FGR 6KQU.

2) I've only used the original Beru coils - still going strong @ 90,000km, no cracks or tracking issues to date, but I live in the sub-tropics so road salt / corrosion is not as issue. Can't find the type# - maybe somebody else can help......

thanks steve!

no others?

Semi OT, can you use any silicon grease, or do you just put the O-rings and pop the tubes in with no grease at all. I have got all the parts to do this, and I have some other silicone grease, but not the "official" Porsche spark plug tube grease.

I've just bought some Denso Iridium Power plugs ahead of a remap session.

I use a dab of silicon grease to just moisten the o-rings.

You really do want to get an expanding transom plug to facilitate tube removal.

Hmm, I haven't tried it yet, but I bought the pipe fittings for a T section to try and use. Read about it on Pelican Parts if I remember it correctly. I was going to change plugs this weekend, then decided to wait until after my trip as there is nothing wrong currently and I didn't want to cause an issue.

I have new tubes and rings for it and was wondering if I should just change them while I'm there or only if I spot a leak. FWIW, I bought the platinum plugs by Bosch FGR 7 DQP.

I am very curious about the pipie t-section tool as I have been told the transom plug does not work sometimes....not sure why

Here's a couple of pictures. If you look closely at the first one you will see th threaded pipe is tapered. So it fits in the tube about half way before the threads engage. The theory is you just srew it in and then pull it out and the tube comes out easily. The transom sometimes does not expand enough sometimes or starts to break under the stress. if I recall correcly, the pipe is standard 3/4" fittings.

Ahhh tapered thread!

I wonder why no one has come up with a simple hook tool to catch the bottom lip and pull the tube in one fell swoop....

Steve Tinker 06-30-2013 01:10 AM

Because when the tubes get old and brittle (a bit like me) the "hook tool" can break the tube and the bits finish up in the cambox.....

jaykay 06-30-2013 09:36 AM

Good point very true .....was thinking a half moon shape elipse but even that may do damage

cbracer 07-01-2013 07:11 AM

I've had both Beru and Bosch plugs in mine, and prefer the Beru !!
