Has anyone read this guy's entire website including "Motor Oil University"? I did and it was very interesting. It almost seems as all oil should be 0W-XX. Does anyone here run 0W-30?

I understand that many here run 0W-40 Mobil 1, I have been a devoted Amsoil user in my bikes and cars for years. Now I am learning and questioning why there are so few Amsoil users here. I saw 5Qt jugs of 0W-40 M1 at Auto Zone for $37.99 and a Purolator Classic Filter for $22.99. Is this the recommended formula? Even though the oil seems clean, I do not know what it is and I would love to see and examine the filter for reference and for monitoring. I expect to be changing my oil in March and August of each year, same as I do for my bike.

Your change intervals are great but I suspect you may hibernate the car in winter in MA and the ideal is to put it away with the freshest oil possible so your August change date this year might better be stretched.

As to what oil, that is a matter of "religion" and there are as many opinions as there are folk and I've seen it even debated on a Prius forum.

I read though it all today. Interesting. My takeaway is that (according to Bob) no oil is really thin enough at cold startup to avoid wear. Combine this with the small differences in true viscosity between oil weights and it may not matter a whole lot which weight oil is used - all of them will result in wear at cold start and nearly all will work fine at normal engine operating temperature.
