There is a switch on the center back portion of the top, behind the rear 3rd light. This switch tells the car when the clamshell is completely down and I think it stops the transmission motor. You might try looking into that one.

My top would not drop at all yesterday and I discovered my dash switch "down" side had gone, as they say in Germany, "Kaput"

Ordered another from Sunset today for delivery tomorrow (I can't be driving around with the top up with weather this nice in Houston... there are so few days that are cool and clear!!!)

Switches and sensors seem to wear out on our cars a lot if you ask me.
