Unhappy Whining noise from Gearbox

I have a 2001 Boxster S. It drives really well however increasingly I am getting a 'whining' noise when I decelerate.

No noise in neutral. No excessive noise when accelerating.

Any suggestions for the problem / what needs to be done to fix it ?

Do you have any idea what gear oil is in it? Noise is a common complaint after someone puts the wrong gear oil in these transmissions............

Thanks for the quick reply. No I don't know what oil it is...but it was serviced by a Posche dealer so they should have only used the correct oil.....

How recently was the trans oil changed or checked before you noticed the whine?

I would check it has been changed, never assume my friend....

When one of my colleague's car was running poorly, I asked when it was last serviced, 'every year' she said and promptly showed me the receipt.....It was a MOT certificate! (UK Vehicle roadworthy test!)
She had owned the car for 10 years and it had never been serviced, she assumed the MOT was a service...oh dear.... !!
