Camshaft position deviation

Camshaft position 1 deviation varies at idle between -3.43 and -3.06 or wider. Camshart position 2 deviation stays at -1.95. IMS was replaced several months ago so I think it is not likely IMS bearing. What else could cause this and how risky is this?

Actually, it is quite normal. What you are seeing is wear/slop in the cam drives and VarioCam system that is always there.

Thanks for the feedback. The car runs great I just like to keep it that way.

If the engine is a 5 chain the variorum wear pads are probably worn.. If its a 3 chain the cam timing is off and could have slipped the 4-6 sprocket on the IMS drive tube. The deviations aren't huge at all, just keep a watch on them.

is there any easy way to determine if you have a 3 or 5 chain engine?

By year, if your car is a 2001, it is a five chain motor.
