That maybe so if it is synthetic I do seem to recall that Moblile 1 has the EP addative.
Though it is not a myth. I personaly know a couple of people that it happend to. The shop told one of them that that was the cause.
They where not running Synthetic either just regualr car motor oil.
Funny thing is I also read this in a motorcycle magazine about 15 years ago.
