Gauge Faces

So I was on the interwebs and came across this picture of the gauges in a 911 sport classic.


I think those stripes look pretty cool and was planning to find a way to recreate them on my boxster. I just wanted to know how many people on this forum have a different gauge face on their car. I currently have a bubbled up silver vinyl on mine. Really interested in knowing if anyone has red gauge faces on their 986. Post pics if you have any.

A couple of questions here:

What is a 911 Sport Classic? I have never seen gauges like that before.

How did yours bubble up? (from what)

I too am interested in switching out my black gauge faces with red ones (without breaking the bank of course).

Ok so the sport classic is a 911 special model lighter and styled to look like the older 911 sport classic, only 200 and something were made so its pretty rare to see them.

So now about my gauge faces. I have the original gauges that came with my boxster, but it was an optional extra to get silver vinyl overlays which I have. Now Cassandra was not a garage queen so the sun brutally hit the windshield for about 11 years or so im guessing which bubbled up my vinyl. I flatend it out over the summer when I got her, but it was very hot in jersey in 2011 summer so it bubble up a bit agin. This means its time for me to get a new vinyl face or remove mine and do that stripe thing instead, or go with those stainless steel ones that cost 200+ dollars, which I most definitely won't spend that money on.

To sum it up heat bubble up the oem vinyl. Lets hear if anyone has done different colors on their gauges.

I want a red RPM gauge face to accent with the white faces i have now, but I don't want to ruin the reading accuracy of the needle in the process.... oh the dilemma
