possible coolant leak

I have noticed a slight smell of coolant since I purchased boxster at Christmas. Yesterday I noticed a wet look inside fenders. Looked the best that I could under car and noticed a little fluid on brace infront of muffler.

I then checked the coolant level and it was just barely under the min level.

Some quick background. The dealer had the coolant hoses replaced and some seals. I have put over 2k miles on car with some spirited short trips and two 500 mile trips. Temp gauge stays around 180 when I am moving and will go to about 190ish when idling.

I added enough water to bring to under max about 12ounces.

Any ideas?

What year? What mileage? Coolant hoses should last 10+ years so it's not necessarily a good thing that the hoses were replaced. Was the work done at a Porsche dealer? Keep a close watch on the coolant level. It can take lots of driving to eliminate all the air pockets in the coolant lines & engine so hopefully the work was done properly & that's the reason for the low level.

2000 and now has 60,000 miles. The work was done by an exotic indy. Suppose to be one of the best in the area. The work on lambos, ferr, etc...

I would pull up the trunk liner and check for fluid. Any sign of it could mean a seeping coolant tank. At 10+ years, seems common problem. Good luck.

Will do, but can it leak out of trunk to under car? I will try to have it put up on a rack Wednesday or Thursday. Will update then.

It will be very difficult to locate the leek without removing some covers.
I head the same issue, and it was the water pump.
Leaking only at idle running good at high rpm.
Remove the front engine cover (behind the seats), the top cover and the under cover.
That will help you detect the exact location of the leak.
I hope for you that one of he hoses recently replaced was not tighten enough.
New water pump is a little bit pricy.
