about flippin' time!

recently turned 30k miles on the 01 986s and realized i was getting more than a bit bored with it. so i.....

finally installed the schnell short shifter that has been sitting in the garage for the past 6 years. feels SO much better than stock....more positive and direct and fast!

and the headers that the shifter has rested on, both collecting dust for the last 3+ years, too!

and the new exhaust system that arrived last thursday.
and new crankshaft underdrive pulley and belt.
and new 5.25" focal door speakers to replace the non-functional stockers.
and new PNP rear speaker kit to replace the stock setup that has been disconnected as long as i've owned the car.
and new kenwood head unit with ipod control, pandora, bluetooth, etc.
and of course all the stuff required by the 30k service at the same time.

just went for a 15mile cruise around the lake.....now THIS is a sports car!!!

can't wait for the row m030 suspension kit to get here in a week or two!

agreed! almost bought an 04 986S 550AE with 13k on it instead of going this route.
definitely i was at the point of modifying this car to suit my new preference or replacing it. and staying with what is paid for and in the garage and known and doing some simple, proven improvements is cheaper than starting over....

after suspension goes on, maybe side skirts and clear or l.e.d. tails and that's it.
done. no more.

except deciding whether to use the softronic or fvd brombracher tuning software that have been sitting unopened in my office for the last 18+ months....

then it's done.

although i wonder about the billet shift linkage.....

i know.....that's so lame to let it sit so much. i bought it september of 2004 with 10k on it and almost 78 years later put on 23k miles.....

"it's too hot in the summer. it's too cold in the winter. it's raining. sand is on the roads. i'd rather ride a motorcycle. not enough room for luggage. it's uncomfortable. the roads are too rough. don't want to be seen driving it because of what people assume when they see me driving a porsche"......so many excuses!

it is entertainment, not transportation for me. so it competes with motorcycles and i usually drive the truck instead when i need to go somewhere or get something.

yesterday i used it to take a new-in -the-box motorcycle exhaust system to fedex....no-brainer in the truck. in the boxster it required moving briefcase to frunk, adjusting passenger seat to allow box to fit, adjust seat again to allow top to close, etc.

it was still worthwhile though! car is so much fun to drive.

thinking seriously about the ipd plenum and 75mm throttle body now......somebody stop me quick!

sunset has the best deal i've found on the row m030 if that's what you are looking for. still available from germany, just takes a few weeks to get here.

anybody looking for a 30k-mile 986s suspension complete, let me know. should have it off and ready in about two weeks.
