Exclamation Loud squeak during half-clutch.

Hey Guys,

When I am pull off the line and give the car an excessive amount of gas (1500ish rpm) while the clutch is still in halfway (bad practice I know) I get a loud squeak from the rear.

It also happens if I am changing up coming off the clutch slowly and give it too much throttle with the clutch not all the way out.

I know applying too much gas mid clutch is not good but is there an underlying issue that would cause the squeak?

Thanks a lot, guys.

My first instinct would be a failing or dry throw out bearing causing the squeal.

Throw bearing

Google pointed to the throw bearing too, but I couldn't find an vid that demonstrated what a failing one sounds like.

Dry? Can that be easily made wet again? :P

Is this something that is easily fixed (probably not - tranny drop, right)?

Is there a danger (or any damage) associated with this bearing failing?

Thanks

No way to grease it.

Sadly... the transmission must come out and you may as well replace the clutch and the IMS bearing while you are in there. (see numerous threads on IMS on this board)

The throw out bearing allows the clutch to spin easily while the clutch is engaged (pedal pushed in) yours is making noise because the bearings are getting crunchy. When it fails catastrophically, metal will fly around inside the bell housing and could get in all kinds of places where you dont really want it to be.

Not going to kill you like blowing a flywheel on a drag car but not really anything you want to clean up after from a mechanical point of view. It is always easier and cheaper to fix it before it breaks than after.

I would take it to a good local shop or the local dealership, have them inspect it and do what they recommend.
