Radio and CD player intermittent

Anybody heard of this one.

The radio and CD player activates upon starting the car and then will periodically cease while driving at any given time. I figured it was the FM frequency that was lost, however when changing to the single CD or the 6 disc changer from the FM station when I lose the radio, neither the single CD player or 6 disc changer work. I can navigate to FM, single CD, and CDC....just no music. Then a miracle happens and it mysteriously comes on after I stop and start the car whether I activate the alarm or not. The dealer indicated the radio is tied to the alarm, however when entering the car and activating or deactivating the alarm, the radio periodically works. Any ideas.....very frustrating.

You don't say what year car you have, or which model radio/CD, but I know I was having some weird issues that were resolved when I cleaned the contacts between the removeable faceplate and the main body.

Please post year and model of car and radio.

To take a shot in the dark, if you have the CDR-220 head unit, the radio and CD player will stop playing at random times/durations if you have the TP (traffic) function engaged. Push the TP button to turn this function off and the head unit will return to normal operation.
