He asked you that question because the early model egas cars (2000) needed an ECU update in order to use the updated MAF, but yours being an 01 (mine's an 01 too), doesn't need the ECU update, and can just use the newer MAF ending in 2501 as a drop in.

To double check this, if your car's existing MAF ends in 2400, you'll need the ECU update. If your current MAF ends in 2500, you can just drop in the newer MAF that ends in 2501.
