Boxster S Exhuast on Boxster

Can you fit a Boxster S exhuast on a non S Boxster? If so, aside from the dual outlet look is the sound or performance different?

S muffler on non-S car

Hello. I've done just that on my '01 Tip. It is a direct bolt-in fit. I have not noticed any difference in sound or performance. A visual inspection leads me to believe that the mufflers are identical, only the outlet tips have been changed. I made the change because I preferred the dual tips over the single tip.

Is there any way to just fit the dual tips?

Seems like it would save some time and dough!

I just did this mod on my '01 Boxster a couple of weeks ago. I picked up a polished (just on the underside) "S" muffler on eBay for $90. It took me an afternoon to change them out. The dual tips look much better IMHO. Plus the polished underside adds just the right amount of bling without being too south of the border. I did notice a change in sound. The S muffler has a slightly deeper tone to it.

The standard oval tip appears to be tack welded to the muffler. A good custom muffler shop or welder should be able to remove the old tip, fabricate custom dual tips, and TIG them to the muffler. Probably cheaper than swapping mufflers.

As for polishing the muffler and tips try "barkeeper's helper" available at the local Safeway. It is a mild cleanser. It even removes burned on oil stains. I'd recommend using gloves and wearing glasses as the stuff contains oxalic acid.

Won a set of dual outlet tips on ebay from a 2004 Boxster. I'll let everyone know how I make out putting them on. I also saw the dual tips for sale at the dealer for $170

In case you did not know, the tip from a 2003/4 will not fit a 1997-2002 muffler.

I do not know anyone who has tried to weld on a 2003/4 bolt on tip to a 1999 muffler. 2.5 owners who want the dual tips use a 2000-2002 S muffler with the sport exhaust adapter bracket.

A 2004 muffler will fit a 1999 if you use the 2.5 liter adapter bracket from the factory sport exhaust. This had been done on a few cars.
