987 cross drilled rotors on a 986??

Anyone know if this is an easy mod? I want an OEM cross drilled rotor without having to upgrade my calipers. In my research I'm pretty sure the base 987 uses the same calipers as a base 986. Would I be safe to assume then the cross drilled rotors from the 987 would be a direct swap? Thanks in advance. -Tom

The front rotors are a straight swap between the 986 & 987. I recently did this exact setup on my 2001.

The Rear however will not fit. The diameter on the hub of the rear 987 is too big to fit the 986.

I had a set of Zimmerman Cross drilled installed on the rear to match. If you do get the zimmerman rear rotors make sure to paint the hat to match the OEM 987 front.

Thank you for your answer. How about the rear rotors from a 986 S? Will those fit on a base 986?

No they won't. The Base rotors are 298mm vs 318mm for the 'S' (Fr) and 292mm Base vs 299mm 'S' (Rr).

While you may be able to get it on the hub, the calipers won't reach the brackets.

Will this work with a 2000 base 986 too?

Yes.

1997-2004 Base models can use the 987 Base Front Rotors with no issues
