Best Autocross Tires?

Question for those who like to autocross or DE: What is a highly recommended tire for autocrossing/DE? I am looking for a good crossover tire between events, but to complicate matters more it needs to hold up a little for street use. I was thinking Falken Azenis vs Yokohama Advans. Here in AZ most people seem to be using Hoosiers or Ecstas but these are not practicle options for me since they need to hold up for street wear. Eventually I will have extra rims and can purchase the aforementioned tires, but until then I am looking for a good compromise instead of the Michelen Pilot Sports I have now. Anyone with any thoughts would be appreciated.

To me, the best "dual purpose" DE/AX/Street tire is the Toyo RA1. Not sure, but its replacement is the R888 might be equally as good. No, they are not as sticky as Hoosiers of V710s, but I was able to beat people who were using the stickier tires.

Yes- Advan Neova
No - Toyo Ra-1

I found RA1s to be fine in the rain. Especially with new tread (6/32nd). I also managed 4k miles of DE/AX/Street driving and they still had another 2-3K miles left in them before I switched back to my all seasons after the "DE" season. They weren't cheap.. about $280 for each rear tire (275-30(35?)-18") and about $250 ea for the fronts (225-40-18) + mounting and balancing.

Hi and thanks to all for their responses.

First, I appreciate anyone with a sense of humor so thanks for getting it djomlas.

Second, thanks topless (good name too) and racer d for your help. I researched both tires after your suggestions were posted. I am in the Phoenix area so rain is not a huge factor. However, the treadware on the Toyo RA-1 is 100. I would probably be lucky to get 5K mi on them considering I will also be using them for street use. So I'm thinking of the Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07. They have a treadware of 180 and still AA traction. I also read a few reviews that the Advan out performed the Falken Azenis which I was originally thinking....Any experience with both of these? Lastly, how do you think Advan Neova AD07 compares to the Pilot sport PS2? Thanks in advance.

I am running PS2's and I like them for all around driving and Auto-X/track days. In Zone 8 (which I think you are) you can still run S/S class with PS2's or Advans. All the guys faster than me in street stock are on Advans .

Toyo RA-1's are a great track tire (my brother runs them in 944 Spec class), a good street tire but will bump you to Stock class from Street stock. They do work in the rain but I think the Advans are better when it gets wet.

Tires are always a compromise.

Good point Topless on bumping of class. I'll probably stick with Advan for now. Eventually, I may add strut tower bar braces, B&M short shifter, and bilstein suspension mods, but for now I am happy in street stock. Being from southern cal do you ever make it out to Phoenix for autoX/DE events?

I have never run in AZ but I have another brother who lives in north Phoenix who wants me to come out and bring my car. Maybe in the spring.
