Some of the '97 models did not have the temp sensor. Look up front and it is easily visible in the right grille. (I think it's the right) I you don't have the sensor you will see a holder (hole) for it on the plastic grille insert. Mine does not have the sensor. So doing the OBC hack for temp will not work for my car.
You car is 4 digits off from the sticker I posted, from a local Boxster. Must have gone down the assembly line together. Both were made in November 1996.
As far as I have been able to determine cars made prior to January 1997 did not have the outside temp sensor in the front grill. We also have a local December 1996 that did not have the sensor. My January 1997 has the sensor and I do not have factory OBC.
A few years ago I retrofitted the sensor on the December car.
On your car if you had the OBC turned on all you will see is - - - three dashes as you do not have the sensor. You just have a rubber plug where the sensor would be.
Thanks Tool Pants, so let me ask you, is it possible to add the sensor? I know you said you retro fitted one. How is that working out, and do you have any instructions how I might be able to do this?
