The Litronics use two different bulbs, a low and a high beam. When you operate the high beams, there is a mechanical deflector for the low beam that raises up a few degrees to help fill the space or gap on the road in front of you created by the high beam being aimed farther down the road. This gives the illusion that both bulbs are the same.
