sticking gear lever release and brake lights problem

HI All
Boxter electrical fault. Can anyone advise how to solve this?
I cant get my gear lever out of park by pushing the release button ( unless I trick it by holding it down before starting the car - which works). Its probably a sticking switch or something similar ?Also my brake lights arent working sometimes - connected problem?
Any advice appreciated - thanks

If your brake lights are working intermittently, you might want to check out your brake light switch... These are known to go out.... I had the same problem a little while back, replaced the brake light switch (easy 10 minute job), and they work perfectly now.

Hope this helps...

.....and since you have to apply the brake to shift fror Park, I'm betting your two problems are common to one part.
