I read this article (section) and found it fascinating.

As luck would have it, our Rotary Club had a single malt Scotch tasting in a private wine celler. The tasting was limited to 20. Every person was given one shot from each bottle. 6 bottles were brought by the importer.

My favorite was Oban 14 (rich fruit).
Next was Dalwhinnie 15 (sweet floral).
Others:
Cragganmore 12 (complex depth).
Talisker 10 (spicy smoke).
Lagavulin 16 (deep smoke).
Caol Ila 18 (sweet smoke).

My two favorite blends are:
Johnny Walker Blue Label
Usquaebach (hard to find but delicious) pictured below

My favorite is anCnoc (www.ancnoc.com) which you can only get in the UK. Fortunately they will ship it to the US! Next to that I like Dalwhinnie 15 year.

I love Glenlivet but often go for Irish whiskey too. I still have a bottle of Bushmills Millenium 25 year old single malt I got as a gift in '99.

Lobo, buy a bottle of Glenlivet or Macallan 12 year old scotch and sip that with an ice cube in it. There's a huge price difference in the 12 and 18 and if you drink good brands, an uneducated pallet won't know the difference at first.

Just tell your wife not mix expensive scotch it with coke. I almost lost it when I saw her pouring her third glass of Macallan 18 into a glass and then dousing it with coke.

I've also discovered that I enjoy sipping a snort of really good 100% agave tequila just as much as scotch. Do try that if you haven't done it yet.
