There goes the Interwebs...

fcc chairman genachowski is expected to announce the fcc's new rules for internet service providers ( comcast, verizon, att, charter, et al. ) giving them the authority to "manage" their networks.

this means we'll see more tiered plans, data caps and "hog" fees. if you rent movies online and stream them to your tv you're one of the people soon to be targeted. in addition, the providers can start charging the content developer to deliver the content...

$69.99/mo for internet access + $.05 from youtube everytime you view that latest boxster AX video + a fee from you if you've already downloaded too many big files and videos...

:troll:

this will have the opposite effect of promoting competition. now telecoms will be able to prioritize network traffic - meaning if comcast decides that 986forum.com is pushing too much data through the network, they can charge you more for delivering the data. if you don't pay they can slow it down. in addition they can charge the owners of the website more money for delivering the content.

same with netflix, youtube, etc.

telecoms are oligopolies already to content providers and it costs millions to dig up the street and lay down new cables so new competitors already have a huge barrier to entry, keeping competition low.

the purpose of all of this?

to keep you from downloading movies from netflix and renting them from comcast instead...

Govt. control and dictating content is not innovation and competition. Socialism breeds drones and stifles freedom on all levels.

One rarely sees the FCC make anything better.

I have my doubts.

Another example of trying to fix something that is not broke. Look for new taxes and penalties in the near future if new "guidelines" are not met. Can't wait for 1 Jan when all this trash can be repealed.

Personally I believe Corporate America and the FED are one in the same. Seems you always see there faces on both sides of the fence. One moment in Corporate America, next they are a working some where in a high level Federal job.
