'Fresh Meat' with a 2004 Boxster....

hello everyone....my name is Cliff....I live in Lancaster, SC (just below Charlotte, NC)...I am 63 years old and have been wrenching on cars, trucks, boats, lawn mowers etc. as a hobby since i was a teenager which was a loooong time ago .......I own a 2004 986 Boxster with approx. 22K miles and 2.7L engine and 5 speed manual transmission....exterior is metallic Carmon red...leather interior and top are black....

some of the options include:
- 18" Carrera wheels
- stainless steel dual oval exhaust tip
- Litronic headlights
- clear side marker lights
- Bose premium sound system with CDR23 radio
- windscreen
- cruise control

I have owned the car for approx. 3 years but just recently started driving it regularly.....and man do I enjoy driving this car....

I thought I would join a 986 forum to converse with other owners and share experiences as well as learn more about the car....i'm looking forward to participating in the forum.....

here are a couple pics of the car with my wife behind the wheel in the first one....

Cliff,

Congratulations on a nice car. Your wrenching experience will come in handy as owner of this model and will be more rewarding of just driving it.

thanks for the welcome....I am pretty familiar with American drivetrains but have no experience with the Porsche drivetrain...i'm looking forward to learning about how things work on this car.....the basic principals are likely very similar but the actual layout of the mechanicals and systems on the Porsche are much different....

i'm not sure how much 'wrenching' i'll be doing on this car due to the limited access to the engine and other components.....it's getting harder to contort into small places as I get a little older............

besides that I have an extended warranty for the car that is valid for a few more years....I have used it once already to pay for a coolant reservoir tank replacement which paid for about 1/2 the cost of the warranty.....I have to be careful how much work I personally do to the car and documenting it.....it is not unusual for some companies that offer extended warranties for vehicles to try and deny some claims due to 'lack of evidence proper maintenance has been performed'......if I can show them documentation from a shop on the work that was done and the recommended service intervals were followed it is hard to deny a claim...

luckily the IMS bearing has already been replaced....
