got a 2002 S

hello everyone new to the forum and the boxster-ill post some pics of my arctic silver beauty tomorrow, i bought it 2 days ago and absolutely love it, and i already have a question and concern, as the car accelerates i hear a definite metallic spinning/grinding noise that only goes away when i push the clutch pedal down to shift. as soon as the next gear engages it comes right back didnt hear it during test drive. any ideas as to what it is im assuming its clutch related the car has 82,000 miles and there is no proof of the cluth being replaced..it shifts beautifully from gear to gear once its warmed up..

That definitely sounds like a throw out bearing. It will get annoying, but nothing is going to blow up...for now. You can drive it for a while, but it is time for a clutch job!!

Sorry for the bad news. I am picking up my 2000 S tomorrow, so I know what feeling you might be having...

While you are doing the clutch get the IMS and RMS done.

I just realized how old this original post was...I may not be new to Porsches, but apparently I am new to forum posting.

And it indeed was the throw out bearing-also had a stage 3 IMS failure going and a horribly scorched and work clutch disc and flywheel.

So were you able to get everything back in order? What was the cost?

Yes I was. Car runs great now, my
Clutch began to slip really bad before it went to mechanic. I replaced clutch kit, flywheel, IMS, and RMS. Parts and labor was 3550.00
