Hi Kevin, I have a EPROM programmer on its way and printed off the instructions you sent me. Basically I connect the soic wire to the eprom chip and the programmer, connect the programmer to my laptop, copy the "code" from the existing 986 cluster and new 996 cluster and save both files as current state. Then I copy mileage, vin from 986 file to New copy of 996 file and also change 996 to 986 in a couple of places. Then copy the New 996 file to the eprom chip on the 996 cluster and I should be ok? did you use notpad or wordpad to edit the files? to cut and paste?

email is mickey1060@cox.net. there is a tip cluster on ebay for 150 starting bid but he doesn't have the vin it came from. so don't want to get it and cant use it. its very confusing!

Hi Kevin, got a question for you. Did you install 996 guages in your Boxster? Does one need to have the vin of the car the 996 guages came out of? I am thinking about doing this at some point but the clusters can be very expensive. I found one on ebay starting bid $150. I have a tip car a 99 Boxster. I probably won't do this right away but keep scrounging for a decent low cost cluster and dont want to waste my money.
